MARRIAGE IN A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE ( part1)

MARRIAGE: here I am going to give you 2 ways of defining love (the worldview and the biblical view).

WORLD VIEW: marriage is a sacred, legal, and binding union of two people to journey through adult life as partners in a personal relationship of companionship, fulfilment, love, and to produce offspring.

CHRISTIAN VIEW: in Genesis God created a perfect helper for Adam and that is why "man shall leave his and mother and is united to his wife and they become on flesh(gen2:24)".

MARRIAGE: this is a holy, sacred, lifelong commitment, love, and mutual support between a husband and wife, and is intended for procreation and the fulfilment of human companionship.

Divorce is a complex topic for Christians whereby we will need to discuss in our next blog but for now, let's talk about different ways a sound Christian can biblically define marriage.

MARRIAGE IS INSTITUTED BY GOD (God's norm for humankind)
In Genesis 2 Go instituted marriage when he saw that it was not good for man to be alone and that no creature was a suitable partner for Adam. therefore, He created a suitable partner, to do that he put him into a deep slumber /sleep and got a rib from his left side, and out of that, he created a suitable helper for him. God put these two together and He set precedence for all humans to follow this order. that is why we should understand that each person has a suitable helper unless you were gifted to be single entirely. for each Eve there is an Adam and an Eve for each Adam and not the other way round.

MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN (complementarity).
GOD created man and woman for each other and each He gave different abilities to sustain the other. He created male and female and he has full authority over them but as he says in the bible man is to love his wife as Christ loves the church( sacrificially) and the wife is called to submit to her husband but both of them submit to the lord first and above all (ephesians5:23-31),(1peter3:7). (mark10:6) even Jesus acknowledged the original design of God for marriage.

MARRIAGE IS TWO BECOMING ONE (one flesh)
the biblical concept of two becoming one is also at the heart of how we understand marriage. A husband and wife becoming one means finding unity in thoughts, body, and purpose while being established in mutual love, respect, and faith in God. being in one flesh argues against sexual immorality, premarital sex, promiscuity and perversion of the sexual act for the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit(1cor6:19).

MARRIAGE IS A LIFELONG COVENANT (permanent union)
Adam and Eve were participants in the first marital covenant that takes place in the bible, they were married by God through a covenant. we often look to ceremonies as what marriage is in actual sense it is truly the vow of husband and wife made to God, and God joining them together that solidifies their sacred union.
"so, they are no longer two, but one flesh .therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate (Matthew 19:6) this is well defined by Jesus Christ and it is for us all to understand that the essence of marriage is not the fancy parties a what the world presumes but true love is a commitment to God first then to each other.

MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE:
the bible is plain and clear about the fact that marriage is not for everyone when Paul says in 1 Corinthians that those who wish to stay celibate or single can because better is the man who is not married for his thoughts are kept captive all to God. this is declared a gift from God for the single person is normally less encumbered in God's work (1cor7:1-36).

In conclusion in this part 1 on marriage you ought to know that love is beyond feelings or the butterflies we presume that we feel but it is sacrificial above all else for there is no greater love than that which God showed us by sacrificing his son for our sins on the cross(john3:16),(romans5:8, philipians2:8,john15:13), love is selfless(icorithians13:4-5,galatians6:2, 1 peters4:8), it is forgiving(colossians3:13,ephesians4:32, mark11:25).

When you get a chance to love, love in a Christlike way for we are called to do so as Christians and children of God.
